FL Studio is as fruity as ever

If you are looking to join the community of dubstep makers and dubstep beat producers out there, you’ll discover that the more you ask, the more people will tell you that FL Studio is the weapon of choice when it comes to ease of use and quality of results.

There are, of course, other options within the electronic music producing industry. The top examples are Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reason, Ableton, and Cubase, but more often than not, you’ll find that people who are particularly in to the dubtep scene tend to prefer FL Studio (also known as Fruity Loops for those who have been in the game for a minute).

If you start comparing the specs on the different types of software, even if you aren’t familiar with all of the terms and the facets of DAWs and the terminology of production work, you’ll begin to understand why a certain majority tends to move more toward FL Studio.

HQ Sequencer:

One of the aspects of FL Studio that regularly comes up in discussions with dubstep producers is how efficient and high-quality the sequencer is. As long as you have any part of an idea in your head about tempo and groove, you can almost immediately get some pretty tight results just playing around for a few minutes with the right sample sets. And after you’ve got the rhythm right, a few plunks away on a gnarly synth bassline and you’re already half-way there.

It would be really interesting to see what percentage of major producers used what kind of software for their composition and mixing processes, but many of the artists are reluctant to talk too much about their DAW of choice and which plugins they use, probably because they don’t want anyone copying their style too much without working for it a little bit. You can be confident that there is a fair bit of misinformation out there as well, just to put people on the wrong track and get them wondering.

Cons:

One of the downsides of FL Studio as dubstep software, however, is the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a stable version of it for the Mac operating system. This is really unfortunate for the Apple people out there who can’t afford to have two sets of systems, and there is a lot of speculation as to why it’s not offered on Mac, or potentially when it will happen. As of right now though, there doesn’t seem to be a real answer.

So if you are getting into the producing game and are looking for the right dubstep software, FL Studio is probably one of your best options if you are running your gig on a PC. At the very least, you should check out some of the more detailed descriptions of it online and some of the tutorials and explanations available on YouTube, as there is definitely some good information out there for the newcomer as well as the more advanced user.
